Karen McIntyre

Karen McIntyre, Ph.D., is an associate professor of multimedia journalism and the director of graduate studies at the Richard T. Robertson School of Media and Culture at Virginia Commonwealth University. She teaches and researches socially responsible forms of journalism, such as constructive journalism and solutions journalism, and she co-edited a book on the topic. She was the first to introduce the term constructive journalism to the academic literature in her 2015 dissertation from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She also studies press freedom and journalism practice in East Africa and served as a Fulbright scholar in Rwanda during the 2018-19 academic year. Prior to her academic career, she worked as a journalist.
